KNOXVILLE, Tennessee,
2006 December 13—Cyclomedical Applications Group is proud to announce that it has added to its team of Associates Dr. Bruce Wieland, an expert in the field of accelerator target systems for the production of radionuclides used for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and therapy applications in nuclear medicine. Cyclomedical is now able to offer a broader range of expertise in all aspects of PET accelerator operations to its clients.

Dr. Wieland is in the thirty-fourth year of his engineering research career. He is a Certified Professional Engineer and holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Nuclear Engineering. His numerous targetry innovations and inventions include the installation of novel stable enriched isotope targets for the production of positron-emitting radionuclides C-11, N-13, O-15, and F-18. In addition to cyclotron and PET targetry improvements, Dr. Wieland developed a target for the production of O-15 ozone used for lung penetration studies in animals and an internal target for the alpha-bombardment production of At-211 used to label monoclonal antibodies for brain tumor therapy. Dr. Wieland is currently president of Bruce Technologies, Inc., and principal investigator on two NIH research grants awarded to his company for the development of recently patented inventions. These inventions significantly increase the level of F-18 that can be produced by available beam currents through retrofitting existing accelerators and utilization on new cyclotrons.

Dr. James Lamb, President of Cyclomedical, stated that “adding the expertise in PET accelerator targetry of Bruce Wieland to our already impressive group of Associates further enhances our ability to respond to all the needs of our clients and to assist them in maximizing production output and efficiency of their operations. We welcome Bruce and we are proud to be able to work with him.”

Cyclomedical Applications Group is an organization of experienced radiopharmaceutical experts serving the nuclear medicine industry, especially owners and operators of medical accelerators dedicated to the production of positron emitting radioisotopes. It works primarily with facilities producing and distributing F-18 FDG–the most widely used positron-emitting radiopharmaceutical in PET scanning. Consulting services offered by the company range from short-term consultation to longer-term retainer arrangements and assistance with regulatory agencies as well as cyclotron operation and FDG production problems. Contract management services range from full responsibility for a cyclotron/FDG production facility to a monitoring posture in support of an in-place management team. Cyclomedical’s goal is to provide clients with a full range of support expertise including FDG market research and development, facility financing, facility planning and operation, licensing and safety, and FDA regulatory issues. The company currently has operational responsibility for several cyclotron/FDG facilities and is providing consultation services to a number of accelerator operating companies and institutions.
